@@@We,the Karen Refugee Committee, would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to all the Thai aithorities concerned for their kind permission to the Karen refugees to take refuge in the border area, and for taking measures to provide security as necessary. Our gratitude in also due to the various international agencies and organizations that have been providing help to meet the basic needs of the refugees such as food, health care and education of children and youths.
@@@Acts of terrorism by the so-called Democratic Kayin Buddhist Army(DKBA) had subsided until the morning of August 24, when a group run bering about 17, crossed on elderly refugee in Don Pa Kiang refugee camp, with a threat of more violence. Again, on August 27, a group of about 30 DKBA crossed the border near the Thai village of Mae U Su with the intention, apparently, of perpetrating acts of terror against the refugees as well as the Thai villagers. However, a timely reaction by Thai security guards drove them back.
